Joe's Western North Carolina BBQ Sauce

Ingredients
- 4 Cups Cider Vinegar
- 1 Cup Dark Brown Sugar
- 1 Cup Ketchup
- 1/4 Cup Butter
- 2 TBSP Hot Sauce Texas Pete's, Crystal, etc
- 2 TBSP Lemon Juice Fresh is best
- 2 Tsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 2 Tsp Red Pepper Flakes Or, more . . .
- 2 Tsp Mustard Powder
- 1.5 Tsp Fresh Cracked Black Pepper
Instructions
- Place vinegar, sugar, ketchup, butter, hot pepper sauce, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, red pepper flakes, mustard powder, salt, and pepper into a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over high heat, then reduce heat to low, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes. Remove from the stove and pour into a heat-proof bowl. Cover and refrigerate the sauce for 2 days. It's worth the wait!!
- If desired, strain your BBQ sauce through a mesh sieve to remove red pepper flakes.
- Use at room temperature
