Heaton Family

Originally called Ford of Elk, the post office of Hale was established in 1889 and discontinued in 1915. The name was changed to Heaton in honor of the Heaton family who moved into the area from Carter County, Tenn. The Heaton Post office was established in 1914 and discontinued in 1953.
